Are you looking forward to the supermoon? If so, be sure to check out the Hunter’s Moon this Thursday at the Abhinav Gupta Bhawan at Lucknow University’s astrology department.

The Indira Gandhi Planetarium and the UP Amateur Astronomers’ Club will set up four telescopes for viewing the moon, and entry is free!

A supermoon happens when the full moon is at its closest point to Earth.

This term was first used by astronomer Richard Nolle in 1979.

A full or new moon becomes a supermoon when it occurs at perigee, making it about 40% larger and 30% brighter. The Hunter’s Moon got its name because it was the time when hunters prepared for winter in October.

On Thursday at 11:55 PM, the moon will be about 351,519 kilometers away from Earth.

It will be farthest on October 30, at 406,161 kilometers.
